Grape "Moscato"

Red Dots on Black

The Moscato is one of the most widely planted white grapes in Piedmont, and perhaps the best known.

It is a grape of which there are many hundreds of varieties that are planted all over the world, also as a table grape because of its distinctive, aromatic taste.

It is possibly one of the oldest grape varieties in existence. In Piedmont, the grape is used for the famous sparkling semi-sweet Asti Spumante and for the lightly sparkling Moscato d'Asti.

The grape is popular for its characteristic, strongly aromatic taste.

The Moscato d'Asti is made by stopping the fermentation before all the sugar has fermented into alcohol, and then typically has a low alcohol content of only about 5%.
